Our Favourite Things
Rachel's top 5 things she loves at the moment

Favourite Furniture Designer – Christophe Delcourt
Christophe Delcourt creates pieces that are both elegantly understated and richly expressive. I admire his design approach, which favours purity of form, honest proportions, and commitment to craftsmanship and artistry. Delcourt often adjusts his designs according to the atelier that will fabricate each piece, thus uncovering new ways to articulate his designs and exploring creative methods of production. As a result, his furnishings are both contemporary and enduring in their design.

Favourite Meal – Ellsworth, Paris
My husband and I met in Paris, and had a special meal at Ellsworth on our last trip there. The interior is simple and unassuming and the menu is small but the food is inventive and each bite was incredible. We sat at the bar and loved chatting with the server and other patrons.

Favourite Design Firm – Arent&Pyke
I first came across Arent&Pyke several years ago and have closely followed their work since; the Sydney-based firm creates spaces that feel luxurious but liveable and their exceptional use of colour is particularly striking. Their aesthetic language blends timeless, high-quality design with unexpected details and thoughtful moments of volume, texture, light and colour, architecture, and decorative objects. It’s evident that the spaces they design are deeply personal and reflective of each client, which creates homes that are full of emotion.

Favourite Fashion Designer – Cecilie Bahnsen
Cecilie Bahnsen is a Danish designer whose work captivates me with its delicate balance of femininity, craftsmanship, and modernity. Known for her ethereal, sculptural designs that often incorporate intricate textiles and voluminous silhouettes, Bahnsen’s creations exude a unique sense of timeless elegance. For me, the duality of her pieces adds to their beauty: simple yet frothy and refined while being unabashedly extra. One of her design principles is wearability - a good reminder to all of us to use and enjoy beautiful things. “Clothes are to be treasured, but above all, clothes are to be worn, for celebrations, holidays, and everyday light,” she says. “Nothing saved for a best or special occasion.”

Favourite Gallery – Musée de l’Orangerie
The Musée de l’Orangerie is my favourite museum for it’s exquisite combination of art and atmosphere. The main floor features eight of Monet’s massive water lily murals, displayed between two oval shaped rooms that create an impressionist panorama. These spaces are designed to enhance the experience of viewing the colossal paintings, with soft natural light flooding in from above and creating a peaceful environment that invites awe and contemplation. The paintings themselves are meditative and calming, yet in some moments moody and abstract; they are breathtaking. If you have the chance to visit, the permanent collection on the lower level is also wonderful, and features work by Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Amadeo Modigliani, and Pablo Picasso.
